Sail on Edmund

Tonight, RJ and I attended the funeral service for Edmund Mentz. I had the privilege to meet him this past Christmas Eve and share a feast prepared by his daughter Diane Kelly. He enjoyed his food a great deal and then spent the rest of the evening watching Christmas Classics.  Edmund Mentz otherwise known as Pops to his grandchildren was a man who was larger than life.  Military man, inventor, golfer, sailor, photographer, father, grandfather, husband and the list can go on to describe who he was. I only met him recently. However, I didn't need to spend more than five minutes to already know the character of who he was. How can I say this? Who he was as a father shows in the heart of his daughter. I have the joy of calling Diane, a friend who in my heart is family.  Diane's boys, James and Robby attend Bethel with their mother. They are fine young men who are devoted to their mother and the church.  They loved their Pops a great deal. His character shines on through them. Hard workers with a servant's heart. Tonight, Robbie shared a heartfelt eulogy of his Pops. James played the piano while Nick sang Amazing Grace.   Pastor Davis shared a beautiful sermon tonight to honor a man who left behind a legacy that lives on in his children and grandchildren. It is never easy to lose a loved one and it hurts so much the more when it's a parent. Sail on Edmond and enjoy the sun as it sets. Please keep the family in your prayers. In all this we still say God is good.
