My Little No So Irish Roots
In honor of St. Patrick's Day I decided to take a quick look at my DNA background to remember if I had any Irish in me. I didn't find an exact match to the Irish even though I know it's there somewhere. In fact I wrote this entire blog a few hours ago thinking I was talking about Ireland. It was a busy day at work, I have a lot on my mind and well..I have no good excuse for such a huge blunder. Alas, here you go, a little family history that has some connection I am sure somehow to my Irish roots. According to my test, I am 5% Irish. I have a direct descendant is in 10th great grandfather on my birth mom's side. His name was Willam Lewyn Lyon II and he was born in Scotland December of 1580. Somewhere along the way he connects to the same Lyons in the family tree of the former Queen of England who is my blood cousin, very distantly removed, but we do share a grandfather. It's a pretty amazing family connection. However, I find it highly unlikely that the present-day King Charles III will be inviting me over for tea at the castle any time soon. I also find it highly unlikely that I will ever be in line for the throne. However, 5% of me is Irish, so I guess I should have worn green today. I will say much to mine and RJ's delight as I was researching this, we discovered that we are cousins 15 times removed from C.S. Lewis and I have to admit that is really cool. The list goes on of amazing people. They are a part of our story because without them, we would not be here today. God is good.
Note: the "picture" I used was I believe of his father, my 11th great grandfather. Clearly, they did not have photographs in that time. This is however a depiction of him.
