Who We Are

Image
Due to the massive snowstorm, we had this past weekend, Bethel did not have service today. I drove past the church this morning around 11 am and it was still be cleared out. Bethel looked absolutely beautiful in the snow.  Finding a church to attend today in person was difficult due the fact that many places got at least a foot of snow and were still digging out. RJ and I attended many services online. I like to "visit" churches in various states of good friends of mine.  I usually take this time to watch services on the West Coast and watch my childhood church services as well. I still want to share something with you that is Bethel related and I have decided to share with you the Bible Study posted via the Bethel App from this past Thursday. "Who We Are" is a great lesson given by Bro. Joe Rapaglia. You can listen/view it  here.  Bro. Rapaglia gave a great exhortation on who we are as Christians, God followers of Jesus Christ.  He encouraged us to work together a

Sail on Edmund

Tonight, RJ and I attended the funeral service for Edmund Mentz. I had the privilege to meet him this past Christmas Eve and share a feast prepared by his daughter Diane Kelly. He enjoyed his food a great deal and then spent the rest of the evening watching Christmas Classics.  Edmund Mentz otherwise known as Pops to his grandchildren was a man who was larger than life.  Military man, inventor, golfer, sailor, photographer, father, grandfather, husband and the list can go on to describe who he was. I only met him recently. However, I didn't need to spend more than five minutes to already know the character of who he was. How can I say this? Who he was as a father shows in the heart of his daughter. I have the joy of calling Diane, a friend who in my heart is family.  Diane's boys, James and Robby attend Bethel with their mother. They are fine young men who are devoted to their mother and the church.  They loved their Pops a great deal. His character shines on through them. Har

Revival of Relationship

Image
This past Sunday, Bro. Jonathan Walker preached what I could call a heart sermon. It was from a place of love in a cry for the Bethel church body to become unified. It was a cry for unity so that Revival can break forth. I wanted to share my notes from the sermon. I can't seem to locate my notebook. I apologize to you the reader for this. I appreciate the passion and love the Walker Family has for Bethel. They have a submitted heart to the Davis' as our Shephard. I truly appreciate them a great deal. The sermon was entitled "Revival of Relationship."  I encourage you to listen/view it  here.    The past two years have been rough on churches as a whole. The whole idea of masks, many getting sick due to the pandemic combined with very strong opinions regarding this issue has caused a breakage within the body of Christ as a whole all over the world. There is a push however to bring us back together as well. We need one another. We are the body of Christ. We may not see

The Power of Unity

Image
Take a walk with me into a sacred place called the prayer room.  It's in the prayer room where you can lay things down and walk out in victory.  It's also in a time of united prayer that powerful things can happen. The prayers of many can carry someone who is weary and tired. When one prays, they send 1,000 angels to flight. When two pray in unity they send 10,000 to flight. The more who pray in unity, the more angels sent to flight for whatever is being prayed for. This is why prayer is powerful and is the key. Before you ever make a decision in life go on your knees in prayer, but do not do it alone, have others pray with you. You don't need to be in the same room, you can pray along the same prayers no matter where you are. I have lost count of the times when a friend and I would pray exactly the same in unity.  God heard and answered our prayers. There is something powerful about when we pray in unity with others. It emboldens your faith. You know you are not praying a

Surviving and Thriving Through Shifting Sands

Image
It was wonderful to be back in church today. Oh, how I love being in the House of the Lord. There is something to be said about strength that takes place when you join together with brothers and sisters in Christ to praise the Lord. As we unite there is a supernatural move that surrounds, strengthens and causes miracles to take place. I am so thankful to be able to go to church. To RJ's great delight Bro Marvin Walker was the speaker for today. RJ received the infilling of the Holy Spirit on one of the Sunday's that Bro. Walker came to preach at Bethel. So, for RJ he's pretty special. Bro. Walker preached an encouraging sermon on "Surviving and Thriving Through Shifting Sands".  His main text came from Ezekial 13:10-16 and Ezekial 14:13-14. You can listen/view it  here.     I will share with you an overview of his sermon. However, I encourage you to listen to it and hear it in depth. The people were being told false prophesies and choosing to not listen to what t

To Love Like Jesus

Image
On Thursday nights, Bethel will post a short Bible study. Tonight, Bro. Gregg Smith taught on Loving Like Jesus and did it also as a tribute to our beloved Stan Jones. Instead of blogging it, I would ask that you listen/view it for yourself and apply it to your life. Something so simple and easy to do that can change a life. God is good.  You can view/listen to it here:  To Love Like Jesus

Wisdom Day 1

Image
Today is day one of Bethel's 21 days of prayer and fasting as a church body.  For the days of Jan 10th to the 16th the prayer focus is for wisdom. Each day I will attempt to share a scripture from the Bible pertaining to wisdom. Proverbs 9:6 (NIV)  For the L ord  gives  wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.   How many times have you been faced with having to make a decision and you truly do not know what to do? As a parent this is a common occurrence for me.  Navigating parenthood of a teenager has brought me to my knees in prayer daily. I seek God to give me wisdom on how to be a parent. I can read all the books I want, but at the end of the day, what does God's Word say to do?  When I read The Bible, I will ask the Lord to give me understanding as I read. Many times, the answer to my questions will become clear as I read. I have also learned to seek Godly counsel and to speak with other parents of teens. This can apply to anyone and any situation. The Lord

The Sound Of Victory

Due to being in quarantine, RJ and I stayed home and watched Bethel's service via live stream. I'm thankful for technology like this, but it's just not the same as being there in person. There is something so special and powerful when you are worshiping with your fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. There is a strength that surrounds you. Thankfully, RJ is feeling much better and today was his last day of quarantine set by his doctor. His doctor called today with good news that he had tested negative for Covid. We give thanks for this news. Bethel had a guest speaker today, Bro. Kyle Kelley, who is a missionary to Wales. He first started by sharing about the history of Wales. In 1904 they had a huge revival that literally changed the people and their way of lives. Today, most of the churches that once were filled with praises to the King of Kings are now historic sites for touring purposes. It's been a long time since there has been a UPC church in Wales. The Kelley

To Love Like Stan Jones

Image
To love like Stan. What does that mean? When I heard of the passing of Stan Jones, the first thought that crossed my mind is who will love like Stan Jones? How do I properly give tribute to a man who had a way to make you feel at ease? Simple, kind and gentle that was Stan. On Sunday's he would bring a van filled with people to church. He was a friend to the friendless. He believed and poured hope into those that others would pass by and not give a second thought to. He showed the love of Jesus to everyone he met, simply by showing kindness. He truly lived as you have done it unto the least of these, you have done it unto me. Stan was a father figure to those who had none. Stan was a friend. Stan was faithful. Stan was a servant.  He spent countless hours teaching Bible studies. He would take a friend out fishing and minister to their wounded hearts. He was a true fisher of men. I believe Stan would want us to remember that Jesus is the answer to it all. Jesus is the answer to our
